Derby County manager Gary Rowett has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal following speculation linking him to the managerial vacancy at Premier League side Stoke.
Rowett was one of the bookmakers’ favourites to take over at Stoke after Mark Hughes was sacked on Saturday.
But the 43-year-old has extended his stay with the Championship club until the end of the 2020-21 season.
Rowett joined the Rams in March 2017 and they are second in the table.
He said: “Since I have come to the club, I have had a fantastic relationship with all the people here.
“I have a really good, clear direct line of communication with Mel Morris [chairman] and that has been a massive factor for me.”
More to follow.
